Monica Davidson founded Creative Plus Business, a social enterprise to help individual creatives, freelancers and small arts organisations develop their business skills through workshops, advisory services, free resources, content creation and webinars. Through education and empowerment, Creative Plus Business has found innovative ways to fund its work so creatives can afford its services. Since inception, it has directly helped thousands of creatives make money from their craft and contribute to the creative economy.
Monica began helping creatives build their businesses after starting as a freelance filmmaker and writer in the early 1990s. Underpinning her approach is a firm belief that all creatives can benefit from business skills, because the more professional they are in practice, the more respect they gain for the value of their work.
Monica started her production company Twoshotmedia in 1994 and began hosting workshops and training session for creatives in 1995. She has written countless articles, blogs, books and thought pieces about the value of the creative economy, was appointed the inaugural NSW Creative Industries Business Advisor, received an Edna Award in 2016 from the Women’s Electoral Lobby and was a 2018 finalist in the City of Sydney Business Awards for Outstanding Business Leader.
“Each time I learned a new commercial skill, or overcame a professional challenge, I had a compulsion to share with my creative peers. The more I figured out how to survive and thrive in my creative practice, the more I wanted others to do the same.” – Monica Davidson
